10 More Lovely Things

(the first twenty)

1. ‘Meddle’ by Pink Floyd. If you don’t know, you should.

2. Making bead necklaces. I recently acquired an assortment of glass beads…some from Venice, some from Barcelona, some from Paris. Stringing them into pretty patterns on color coordianted threads has an uncanny calming affect.

3. In two weeks, I will see the Sistine Chapel. And buy records at the Portobello Market.

4. In three weeks, I will order the largest chai tea latte available, walk my dog, and go-kart with my boyfriend.

5. Turquoise wayfarer raybans.

6. I found the most wonderful crepe place today on Saint Michel. Grande Crepe avec Fromage: 2 euros.

7. And did you feel it, in your heart, how it pertained to everything?
And have you too finally figured out what beauty is for?
And have you changed your life?
(last three lines of The Swan, Mary Oliver)

8. Bows. Everyone’s wearing bows lately. They’re on purses, coats, headbands, gloves… I like them especially when they’re ribbon tied into a ponytail. Its simple, pretty, and a bit playful.

9. The British Office. Having watched all of the American episodes, I have moved on to the equally hilarious yet slightly less appropriate version that started it all. The Brits don’t have the censoring we’ve got here in the states, I suppose.

10. At the end of a long day, I can still call and just say “hi”. And being able to do that makes me feel 100 million times better. Always.

I pulled up my feet, bent my knees, and rested my chin on my hand. Then I closed my eyes. Still no sound. The darkness behind my eyelids was like the cloud covered sky, but the grey was somewhat deeper. Every few minutes someone would come and paint over the grey with a different textured grey-one with a touch of gold or green or red. I was impressed with the variety of greys that existed. Human beings were so strange. All you had to do was sit still for ten minutes, and you could see this amazing variety of greys.

I’m reading this while eating homemade soup and clementines, waiting to go to Le Timbre for “good-bye Matt!” drinks.

Swinton gained great artistic acclaim for a period in 1995 when she developed a performance/installation art piece in which as a live exhibit in the Serpentine Gallery, London, she was on display to the public for a week, asleep or apparently so, in a glass case, as a piece of performance art.

French presses

are not french.

I found this out today when I tried to ask where I might find one to bring back to the states to make coffee with. You know, I wanted an authentic French french press.

They’re Italian. And the French call them “cafetiere italienne”.

Go figure.

Gorg

Ives made me this today for my sore throat. It’s really simple aaaannnd it really works! It tastes good, too. I really don’t know why it’s called Gorg. Ives just named it that, I guess.

Gorg (For Sore Throats) : A Corsican Recipe

Ingredients : really, really hot water, honey, a fresh lemon.

Directions : Put them all in a big mug. Drink while still hot, but do not burn your tongue.

For what it’s worth, it’s never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit … start whenever you want … you can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing.
